Abstract:

Archive of art works by Tony de Carlo, including sketchbooks of original drawings and paintings (1976-1990), a catalog of photographic reproductions of his paintings (2004-2011), selected correspondence, miscellaneous papers (articles, interviews, gallery exhibit announcements, etc.) and a few publications containing reproductions of his works. Subject matter is chiefly gay male portraits, often depicted nude and/or with erotic content, rendered in bold, vibrant colors. Local flora (the artist lived in Los Angeles, New Mexico, Hawaii and Savannah) is often depicted. Other prominent subjects include skeletons associated with Dia de los Muertos (i.e. calaveras) and the artist's dogs.
